New Build Basement, East Grinstead - Waterproofing
History
The client was developing the site to construct several new build properties. One of the new build houses was designed to have a basement area constructed into the sloping site. As the new basement would be fully earth retaining on 3 sides and part earth retaining on the remaining side, As Newton Specialist Basement Contractors, CavityTech Systems Ltd designed both an internal and external waterproofing system to comply with BS8102 - (The Code of Practice for the Protection of Structural Against Water from the Ground)
Methodology
Our design was based on both internal and external waterproofing systems being installed to offer complete long-term protection to the structure against water from the ground.
Externally - our designed allowed for the installation of a perforated Geopipe around the perimeter of the building base to take water away from the structure and divert it to a soak away. This land-drain also incorparated inspection ports on each corner to enable furture inspection and maintainance of the land-drain. To the walls, we installed Newton 410 Geodrain continuously along the full height of the earth retaining areas, in accordance with manufacturers guidelines and recommendations.

Internally - our design allowed for the installation of Basedrain channelling along the floor/wall junction connecting to a Titan sump chamber (fitted with 2 x NP400 pumps). The walls were lined with Newton 508 membrane, and the floors overlaid with 50mm closed cell insulation and Newton Slimline floor membrane. The main contractor then screeded the floors and lined the walls with a Drylining system. Typical details of this installation are shown in fig below:
